ACE Limited Sells 28,616,670 Ordinary Shares in Public Offering

HAMILTON, Bermuda--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2005--ACE Limited (NYSE:ACE) announced today that it has agreed to sell in a public offering 28,616,670 of its ordinary shares at a price per share of $45.58, for gross proceeds of $1,304,347,826. ACE has also granted to the underwriters an option to purchase up to an additional 4,292,501 ordinary shares at the same price. Citigroup Global Markets Inc. and Goldman, Sachs & Co. are acting as joint book-runners of the offering. 

ACE expects to use the net proceeds of the offering of the ordinary shares for growth opportunities in the global insurance and reinsurance markets.
