ACE USA Enhances Hospice Insurance Products
Addresses Hospice Care Eligibility Recertification Requirement & Adds Insurance Liability Coverage for Inpatient Services and Hospice Physicians
Apr 27, 2012

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operations of the ACE Group, today announced that its ACE Medical Risk Division now offers an endorsement for hospice care eligibility requirements. This new enhanced Hospice Care Eligibility Recertification Endorsement serves as an amendment to ACE’s hospice facilities products. It provides professional liability coverage to hospice physicians, addressing the unique risks they face when re-certifying patients for hospice care.

The Hospice Care Eligibility Recertification Endorsement responds to a change mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and implemented by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). It addresses the needs of hospice organizations by providing coverage for hospice physicians as they determine each patient’s continued eligibility for hospice care through a face-to-face encounter, and attest to those visits as required by the ACA.

In addition, ACE Medical Risk has introduced the Liability Arising Out of Hospitals or Other Enterprises amendment. This is an expansion of ACE’s hospice facilities products, and is designed for owners and managers of residential hospice facilities, or for hospices that utilize beds in hospitals or nursing homes to deliver hospice care.

“With an aging population, demand for hospice care will grow and an increasing number of clients will use the Medicare benefit to pay for these services,” said Caroline Clouser, Executive Vice President, ACE Medical Risk. “Both the new endorsement and the new amendment fill the gaps left by most forms of coverage by providing professional liability insurance options for physicians who are performing direct patient care to fulfill recertification requirements, and for hospice owners, administrators and officers of organizations providing end-of-life care in a dedicated inpatient unit or residential facility.”

ACE Medical Risk’s liability offerings include primary and excess medical professional liability for hospitals, and miscellaneous healthcare facilities, and managed care errors and omissions coverage. In addition, ACE offers products liability for clinical trials, biotechnology, and specialty pharmaceutical companies, as well as a comprehensive package policy that includes property, auto and crime coverages, through ACE Life Sciences.
