GLENVIEW, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Combined Insurance, a leading provider of individual supplemental accident, disability, health and life insurance products, and part of the ACE Group of Companies, today announced it has been named a top 10 Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs Magazine. This is the third consecutive year the company has made the list and the second time in the top 10.
The G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Employers list is made up of 185 out of more than 5,000 eligible competing companies. Criteria for making the list included the strength of a company’s military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention efforts, and the company’s policies toward National Guard and Reserve service.
“We are extremely proud to once again be named a top military friendly employer by G.I. Jobs magazine,” said Peter Leighton, senior vice president of recruiting for Combined Insurance. “For more than three years, Combined Insurance has been dedicated to helping our nation’s military veterans find meaningful employment as they transition back into their civilian lives. Through our program, we have hired more than 1,000 veterans to date, many of whom have made valuable contributions to our company and built successful careers and financially stable lives for themselves and their families.”
As it continues its commitment to hire military veterans, Combined Insurance plans to further leverage its participation in Hiring Our Heroes, the 100,000 Jobs Mission, and use of other military recruiting resources such as the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) and Fleet and Family Support Centers, the Veterans Administration, state representatives and other local veteran organizations, as well as military-specific job sites like vetsuccess.gov.
This year alone, Combined Insurance will participate in close to 200 hiring fairs organized by Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative launched by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s National Chamber Foundation in March of 2011 to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Through this program, Combined Insurance has helped employ hundreds of veterans.
“The 2014 military friendly employers represent the preeminent tier of companies with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment,” said Sean Collins, vice president for Victory Media (G.I. Jobs publisher), and a nine-year Navy veteran. “Our military friendly employers constitute the group of companies actually moving the needle and hiring from the military community. The 2014 military friendly employers reported hiring over 117,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, representing an average of 14 percent of total new hires.”
