Ho Chi Minh City, 16 October 2015 – ACE Group today announced that its life and general insurance operations in Vietnam jointly held their „Day of Service‟ during which employees spent time with more than 500 underprivileged children at the Binh My 1 primary school. Located at 6B Binh My Commune, this school is one of the five typical underprivileged schools in Cu Chi Town, HCMC. In order to give the school‟s pupils a safer and cleaner learning environment, during the „Day of Service‟, ACE Group representatives painted and repaired a row of Binh My 1 school buildings as well as sanitized the entire campus. In addition, ACE‟s volunteers also distributed 50 new school uniforms and 20 scholarships to motivate and bring cheer to these children.
ACE‟s corporate social responsibility activities focus on the support of the local communities in which it lives and works. Since 2012, the „Day of Service‟ has been the annual event for ACE‟s employees across 11 Asia Pacific markets to dedicate their time to various local community projects during a designated week of the year. Their charitable outreach activities align with ACE‟s over-arching philanthropic support for improving education and health, saving the environment and alleviating poverty.
Mr. Lam Hai Tuan, Chairman and Country President of ACE Life in Vietnam and Mr. Dang Hoang Tung, Country President & General Director of ACE‟s general insurance operation in Vietnam, said: “We are part of the fabric of the society in which we operate. Apart from providing financial support to the less fortunate, what is even more critical is the care and help which we bring to these children at Binh My 1 primary school. We hope that these activities will encourage the children to further their studies. In time to come, we will expand these outreach activities to touch the lives of more underprivileged people”.
Besides the annual „Day Of Service‟, in 2013, ACE‟s global Foundation provided a two-year grant worth US$465,400 (over VND9 billion) to Roots of Peace (ROP) for the expansion of the Sustainable Horticulture and Agriculture Development Project (SHADE) in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. ROP is a San Rafael California humanitarian organization that supports war-torn communities by removing, with demining partners, unexploded mines and artillery shells, and working with farmers to provide lasting economic opportunities through sustainable agriculture. ROP initiated the SHADE program in Vietnam since 2010 in order to help war-torn farmers use their land effectively and increase their harvest productivity as well as their yearly income. With the grant from the ACE Charitable Foundation, ROP has now expanded this program to provide subsidized plants and equipment, technical training, and follow-up activities through farmer field schools, farm visits and mentoring to over 850 Vietnamese farmers in the Quang Tri Province.
