Chubb Workplace Benefits Reminds Consumers of Importance of Supplemental Insurance During Open Enrollment Period
Oct 25, 2017

CHICAGO, Oct. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- It is Open Enrollment season - a time when millions of Americans make important health insurance decisions for the coming year.  Chubb Workplace Benefits encourages consumers preparing to enroll to take time to consider supplemental insurance as they determine their insurance plans for the coming year.

"More employers are offering voluntary benefits as part of their employee benefit plans to help cover the out of pocket costs associated with health insurance and medical expenses," said Chris Martin, President of Chubb Workplace Benefits.  "We strongly encourage consumers to consider these important supplemental insurance policies to ensure they have that extra protection should they or their dependents need it."

According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation Health Tracking poll1:

  • Four out of ten (43 percent) adults with health insurance say they have difficulty affording their deductible, and roughly a third say they have trouble affording their premiums.
  • Three out of ten (29 percent) Americans report problems paying medical bills, with seven in ten (73 percent) indicating they cut back spending on food, clothing or basic household items to put more money toward those bills.
  • Nearly half of Americans (45 percent) say they would have difficulty paying an unexpected $500 medical bill.

Regardless of whether an individual has major medical insurance through his or her employer or through an ACA exchange, gaps in coverage may still exist. Supplemental insurance can help cover those gaps, where benefits are paid directly to policyholders if the unexpected occurs.

Chubb Workplace Benefits offers several types of supplemental insurance policies, including:

  • Accident Insurance
  • Critical Illness
  • Hospital Indemnity Insurance
  • Disability Income Insurance
  • Life Insurance

Built around the Chubb tenets of superior underwriting, service, and execution, Chubb Workplace Benefits serves large and mid-market customers by partnering with benefit brokers, agents, and consultants, offering a line of supplemental insurance products, including accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, life and disability income.  Click here to learn more about Chubb Workplace Benefits.
