Chubb observed its fifth annual Regional Day of Service in the Asia Pacific during 6-10 November. The initiative involved more than 1,000 employees in 12 territories who participated in community projects focused on increasing educational opportunities and improving the livelihood for the underprivileged.
Strengthening Communities through Volunteerism
Chubb recognizes that an organization's success is not based solely on its business achievements, but also by the positive role it plays in community engagement.
Since 2012, the annual Regional Day of Service has become an important expression of Chubb’s belief that positive contributions to communities return long-lasting benefits to society and the company’s employees and business. Serving the communities where they live and work, Chubb employees delivered real benefits through a range of outreach efforts.
Cross-section of non-profit collaborations reflects Chubb’s cultural diversity
Every year, the Regional Day of Service sees Chubb employees take part in a broad spectrum of volunteer projects, reflecting the company’s cultural diversity across the region.
This year’s Day of Service activities included: educational programs; skills coaching; restoration of premises; fund-raising, outings with the less privileged; donation of books and basic necessities, and scholarships to needy children.
The participating markets included Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Innovation and fun were at the heart of Australia’s day of service as employees raised funds amazing-race-style in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. All proceeds went to KidsXpress, an organization which runs expressive therapy programs for children impacted by traumatic experiences in their lives.
Over in Indonesia, volunteers travelled to West Java to build several homes in the impoverished community of Kidoso Village in Mauk, Tangerang.
With increasing educational opportunities as one of the key causes for the Regional Day of Service, several teams engaged in community projects to benefit the needy children.
In Malaysia, a series of educational campaigns and field trips were organized for about 200 children and volunteers in several states across the country. Watch this video for more information.
In addition, volunteers in Thailand organized a host of activities for the less fortunate students at Comunita’ Incontro Foundation School to teach them English. It was part of the “English@Heart” concept to highlight the importance of learning the language, a theme that was formalized during last year’s day of service activity locally. A donation was also made to the school to support its renovation and maintenance works.
Not forgetting the elderly in the community, employees in Taiwan collaborated with Hongdao Senior Citizens’ Welfare Foundation in conducting a handicraft session as well as visits to The Museum of Taiwan Ceramics and Namchow Tourist Factory for a group of disadvantaged seniors.
Chubb has a rich tradition of corporate philanthropy. The Regional Day of Service reaffirms the company’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen by helping those in need in the region where it has a long and deep presence.
