Ho Chi Minh City, November 8th, 2019 – Chubb held its ‘Regional Day of Service’ at Tan Dong Primary School in Vietnam. Nearly 35 employees from both the general and life insurance operations in Vietnam joined forces to help increase educational opportunities for underprivileged children attending this school.
Since 2012, Chubb’s ‘Regional Day of Service’ has become an annual event for Chubb Group across the Asia Pacific region. On this day, employees in the region all join forces to participate in community aid projects, to provide emotional and material support to disadvantaged people. Located in Tan Dong Commune, Thanh Hoa District in the Long An Province, Tan Dong Primary School (Hamlet 2 subdivision) suffers from poor infrastructure. The school has five classrooms which can accommodate 80 students, many of whom are living in poor conditions and some are disabled.
As part of the ‘Regional Day of Service’, staff from Chubb’s general and life insurance operations has funded VND 120 million to sponsor the construction of a new school canteen, parking lot, fence system, as well as the restrooms. By improving basic amenities and infrastructure, students will be able to focus more on their education and school activities. In addition, Chubb awarded scholarships to 80 disadvantaged students, to support their future education and inspire them to continue their education.
Staff volunteers and students had a memorable day together with many fun and meaningful activities. With the help of Chubb’s staff volunteers, students decorated their classrooms with colourful photos, which helps stimulate curiosity and creativity during classes. They also worked together to clean up the school yard and participated in a “mini sports competition” with many exciting games.
For this initiative, Chubb’s general and life insurance operations collaborated with OpenM, a social enterprise providing informal education, to hold a life skills education workshop to help equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills in preventing abuse. The workshop was well attended by more than 1,000 students from Tan Dong Primary School and nearby elementary and secondary schools within Long An Province.
