ACE Group Helps Thousands of Homeless Children Prepare for School This Fall
Sep 21, 2010

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ACE Group today announced the successful completion of its sponsorship of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s fourth annual Stuff the Bus program providing school supplies to children living in homeless shelters throughout the Philadelphia region. In addition, ACE employees in New York and Wilmington joined forces with local organizations to set up office-wide school supply drives.

“For the past twelve years, ACE has been a proud supporter of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and their tremendous work and accomplishments in the community,” said Brian Dowd, Chief Executive Officer, Insurance-North America, and Chairman, ACE USA. “Their Stuff the Bus program helps thousands of the more than 10,000 Philadelphia children currently living in homeless shelters get the school supplies they need. We’re also proud that ACE employees in the Philadelphia and New York regions donated funds and supplies, helped get the word out in the community, and volunteered to assemble book bags for the kids.”

In its second year as presenting sponsor through an undertaking with United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, ACE Group, with its North America headquarters in Philadelphia, rose to the challenge to help Philadelphia children living in homeless shelters get the supplies they needed to start the school year on a good note.

ACE employees in Philadelphia, Wilmington and Cherry Hill joined the summer-long United Way Stuff the Bus campaign by donating book bags full of school supplies, virtual book bags (through online donations used to purchase fully-stocked book bags), and by donating additional supplies to United Way’s collections. As a result, ACE Group was able to give all the children in its adopted Police Athletic Leagues (PAL) centers in Philadelphia: Mill Creek, St. Benedict and Police Memorial – and for students attending programs at the Claymont Community Center in Wilmington, DE -- a total of 106 backpacks and the supplies they need to begin school this fall.

For the fourth year in a row, ACE employees in New York collected clothing, shoes and school supplies to benefit First Day New York, a local agency committed to giving children in need throughout the city the tools they need to succeed. This year’s drive was an overwhelming success with employees generously donating enough backpacks, outfits, shoes, supplies and notes of encouragement to 311 students in need. Contributions from ACE Group employees comprised about twenty percent of the total collected in New York City.

Celebrating 25 years of insuring progress, the ACE Group is a global leader in insurance and reinsurance serving a diverse group of clients. Headed by ACE Limited (NYSE:ACE), a component of the S&P 500 stock index, the ACE Group conducts its business on a worldwide basis with operating subsidiaries in more than 50 countries.
