GLENVIEW, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Combined Insurance, a leading provider of individual supplemental accident, disability, health and life insurance products, and an ACE Group company, takes another step forward in its commitment to help military veterans find meaningful employment with the completion of its military hiring summit – the first of its kind for the company.
The summit, hosted by Combined Insurance, was created to bring government and business leaders, and recently transitioned military servicemen and women together in a roundtable forum to more closely identify issues and discuss solutions related to veteran unemployment.
Participants for Combined Insurance’s first summit included U.S. Congressman Bob Dold; Ryan Yantis, communications manager for the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs; recently transitioned Marine veteran, Scott Lietzow; recently transitioned Army veteran, Matt Heid; Brad Bennett, president, Combined Insurance; Art Kandarian, retired U.S. Army Colonel and vice president of sales and military markets, Combined Insurance; and Joe Pennington, U.S. Navy veteran and director military programs, Combined Insurance.
Topics addressed in the summit roundtable discussion included military veteran employment issues, such as translating military skills to civilian jobs, veteran job search resources, and work environment assimilation. Discussion findings revealed that challenges continue to be highly prevalent in these key areas for veterans as they transition out of the military and into the civilian workforce.
“Hosting this military hiring summit was extremely valuable to us and provided first-hand insights into the challenges our servicemen and women continue to face as they look to find meaningful employment and build stable lives for themselves and their families,” said Brad Bennett. “It also revealed a wealth of opportunities for us to continue to build on our military hiring program and work more closely with veterans and government officials to find solutions.”
With the insights and knowledge gathered from the summit, Combined Insurance plans to publicly release its findings as well as build on its military hiring best practices and continue its work with officials from the Department of Veteran Affairs, the military and other governmental organizations, and job search agencies. The company also plans to hold future roundtable discussions with government officials and servicemen and women on veteran unemployment issues.
“We have an obligation to create more opportunities for our military veterans,” said Congressman Bob Dold. “Forums such as this one hosted by Combined Insurance are important in the discussion to address veteran unemployment issues and find solutions. I plan on continuing to work closely with our veteran’s advisory board in Washington, as well as other government organizations to ensure the leadership qualities and skills our veterans have to offer aren’t overlooked.”
Combined Insurance, which was recently named the top military friendly employer for 2015 by Victory Media, has been dedicated to helping our nation’s military veterans find meaningful employment as they transition back into their civilian lives for more than four years. Through its recruiting program, the company has hired more than 2,000 veterans to date. In 2014 alone, 42 percent of Combined Insurance’s new hires had military backgrounds.
